Polit Bureau Communique

 

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met on June
26-27, 2026 and issued the following communique: 

 

BJP's 'Operation Lotus': Immediately after the election results were
declared, the BJP got busy in breaking opposition parties. After the splits
it had engineered in the Shiv Sena and the NCP in Maharashtra and the AAP in
Delhi and Punjab, it split the TMC, which was immediately followed by
another split in the Shiv Sena (UBT). A section of the BJP leadership is
boasting that the Samajwadi Party (SP) is next in line. 

 

The BJP is consciously targeting regional parties and breaking them with an
eye on acquiring a two-thirds majority in Parliament. This would enable it
not only to pass the Delimitation Bill, but also many other bills that are
crucial for the implementation of its Hindutva-Manuvadi agenda. These moves
are making a mockery of democracy and rendering the anti-defection laws
irrelevant. This once again exposes the BJP's contempt for Constitutional
principles.

 

Campaign for Electoral Reforms: The Election Commission of India (ECI),
which is supposed to act as an impartial Constitutional body by conducting
free and fair elections, is thoroughly compromised. The SIR process has
disenfranchised nearly six crore voters in various states. Instead of
learning lessons and protecting the rights of the electorate, the ECI is
continuing with the SIR in many states, unmindful of its violations. The
Polit Bureau decided to launch a broad and extensive campaign demanding
transparency in the entire process of the conduct of elections.

 

Citizenship Controversy: The recent statement by the Ministry of External
Affairs that a passport is not proof of citizenship is not a mere
administrative lapse, but a cynical and calculated assault designed to
complement the BJP's discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act and the
National Register of Citizens. This outrageous declaration, which renders
even the most legitimate State-issued documents utterly futile, dovetails
alarmingly with the ongoing SIR process. These coordinated manoeuvres are
not isolated procedural oversights but a deeply sinister and deliberate
strategy to disenfranchise, delegitimise, and purge the most vulnerable
sections of our population, pushing them towards Statelessness in their own
homeland. The refusal to renew the passport of a former editor of a
prominent English daily, on the pretext that his name does not appear in the
electoral rolls-even while his appeal against the deletion of his name from
the rolls in Bengal is still pending-is a pointer to what the future
portends.  By weaponising the very definition of citizenship, the government
is laying the groundwork for a communal registry while simultaneously
eroding the democratic franchise of those it seeks to exclude.

 

The Polit Bureau vehemently condemns these attacks and demands an immediate
halt to such undemocratic practices, the restoration of all deleted names,
and a clear, unambiguous clarification on the legal sanctity of official
documents.

 

The Crisis in Conducting Examinations: The incompetence of the BJP-led Union
government in conducting various examinations once again came to the fore
through the leakage of the NEET paper, the flawed evaluation of CBSE
examination papers, and the repeated glitches in the conduct of the CUET.
Over the last 12 years, more than 25 central examination papers have been
leaked. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has proved to be utterly
incompetent to undertake such a task. The Polit Bureau extends its support
to the students who are demanding the scrapping of the NTA and the
resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Education. It
condemns the high-handed attitude of the government and demands that it
concede to the students' demands and decentralise the conduct of
examinations.

 

Corruption: The boastful claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP
that they will root out corruption have proved to be another one of their
'jhumlas'. Nothing seems to be out of bounds for their cronies, who are
indulging in blatant corruption. Reports indicate that the Ram Temple, built
in Ayodhya after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, is now mired in a huge
corruption scandal. Names of many individuals who were at the forefront of
the Sangh Parivar-led Ram Temple agitation are now being accused of
misappropriating temple donations. These deeds expose the real character of
the Sangh Parivar.

 

Media reports also point to the misappropriation of public funds by the
Union Minister of State for Agriculture. The government must immediately
conduct an impartial probe into this matter and punish all those who are
guilty, irrespective of their positions. The Prime Minister, who screamed
'Na Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga', should break his silence on these issues and
act decisively against such corrupt and incompetent colleagues in his
ministry.

 

US-Iran MoU: The fragility of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed
between Iran and the United States of America (USA) is exposed. Israel is
continuing its attacks on Lebanon, in clear violation of the MoU. The
ceasefire can be protected only by retaining popular pressure against
imperialist aggression. After the MoU was signed, oil prices in the energy
markets have been on the decline. Despite this, the Government of India is
not taking steps to reduce the increased prices of gas, petrol, and diesel.
It must immediately reduce these prices and also ensure the availability of
fertilisers, particularly urea, to our farmers.

 

CC Meeting: The Central Committee of the CPI(M) will meet from July 11-13,
2026 in New Delhi.
