Press Statement
 
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the
following statement:
 
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its grave concern at the damage to
life, livestock and property being caused by cyclone Fani across the entire
coastal belt of Odisha and parts of northern Andhra Pradesh. This severe
cyclone is now moving towards West Bengal and is likely to cause further
damage. 
 
It is imperative that both the central and concerned state governments act
with utmost urgency to provide relief and protect the people from further
hardship. The lack of resources should not be an excuse for not launching
operations on a war footing. 
 
All CPI(M) units have been alerted in the affected areas to reach out to
provide relief and escort the vulnerable to safety.
