The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to
the people of the country to contribute generously to the funds for the
rescue and relief operations in Kerala, which is facing an unprecedented
floods.

Unprecedented Floods in Kerala: Rush Aid


Heavy rains and floods have caused largescale damage in the entire state
of Kerala. All the districts and all the 1,654 villages of the state are
affected. In the current spell of rains, landslides and floods alone 65
people have been officially reported killed till August 15, while 265
people are reported killed during this monsoon. More than 50,000 houses
have been completely destroyed and more than one lakh fifty thousand
people are currently lodged in relief camps. Train, rail, air and road
transport have been suspended in major parts of the state. All the rivers
in the state are in spate and the shutters of 27 dams have been opened.

Despite coordinated rescue efforts by multiple agencies, people are
marooned in various parts of the state. The state government is rendering
all possible help to the people. The Centre too has promised all help. The
army, navy, airforce and other agencies are also rendering all possible
help.

Given this unprecedented situation that the people of Kerala are
confronted with, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India
(Marxist) fervently appeals to people of the entire country to contribute
generously to aid the rescue and relief operations.

Given the urgency, Party members, sympathisers and the general public are
requested to rush their individual contributions either through
