Statement Issued by G. Ramakrishnan, Secretary, Tamilnadu State Committee of
the Communist Party of India (Marxist):

THIS JUDGEMENT IS NOT A FINAL ONE

The case pertaining to the then Chief Minister on the question of her assets
disproportionate to her income had been dragging on in the Court for the
last 18 years. Four accused including Ms. Jayalalitha had been awarded
punishment of 4 years of imprisonment each, Rs.100 crores penalty for Ms.
Jayalalitha and Rs.10 crores for the other three, by the Special Court which
heard the case.

An appeal against this judgement was filed by Jayalalitha side in the
Karnataka High Court; this appeal has been allowed by the High Court and the
single judge who heard the case set aside the judgement of the Special
Court. However we consider that this judgement of the High Court is not the
final one. In this background the Karnataka Government should file appeal
against this judgement of the Karnataka High Court in the Supreme Court.
