[Marxistindia] Proceed Against Those who Attacked Rakesh Singha

Press Statement

 

 

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the
following statement:

 

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the attempt on the life of
Comrade Rakesh Singha, Member of the Central Committee of the CPI(M) and
CITU leader in Himachal Pradesh. Rakesh Singh is leading an ongoing struggle
of the workers at the Wangtoo Karcham hydroelectric project built by the
Jaypee company at Kinnaur. While traveling for a rally of the workers in
Kinnaur an attempt was made by a vehicle to run over Rakesh Singh who
escaped with minor injuries. The vehicle used in the attack along with the
persons in it were apprehended by the local people. 

 

This heinous attack on Rakesh Singha was obviously planned in order to
suppress the workers struggle. The state government has been supporting the
efforts of the Jaypee company to break the strike. 

 

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands firm action on the FIR lodged
regarding this attack. All those responsible must be apprehended and
proceeded against.
