The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

 

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) congratulates the Party unit  in Himachal Pradesh for the historic win in the direct elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Shimla.  

 

The PB of the CPI(M) salutes the people of Shimla for reposing their faith in the CPI(M) candidates in the first ever direct election. Sanjay Chauhan has been elected as Mayor  with a margin of 7868 votes over the nearest BJP candidate and Tikendar Panwar has been elected as Deputy Mayor with a margin of 4778 votes over the nearest BJP candidate and defeating the Congress candidates.
